The Huawei Technology donates to girl schools

Plans to promote girls’ education have been given a new push
after a donation of 100 desktop computers worth 60,000 US dollars
(about 81m/-) by Huawei Technology of China which has a branch
in Dar esc Salaam.

The donation was handed over to Chairperson of Wanawake na Maendeleo
(WAMA) Foundation, Hon. Mama Salma Kikwete.
In her vote of thanks, the WAMA Chairperson said the donation
would help women in learning and entrepreneurship. With information
technology, we will improve the provision of quality education,
health services and economic empowerment to women, “she said.

The Deputy head and Political Counselor of the Chinese Embassy
to Tanzania, Mr. Jijin Fu, said both China and Tanzania are
developing countries facing similar tasks in economic and social
development.
He added that China had learned from its experience that education
had a very important role in the country endeavour for prosperity.
“In China women are regarded as the half sky, they are a significant
force in promoting economic growth,” he added.
Meanwhile the Executive Secretary of WAMA, Mr. Daudi Nasib said
the computers would benefit girls schools including WAMA- Nakayama
Secondary School at Nyamisati in Rufiji District.
“Although we have not yet listed the schools which will benefit
from the donation, we will start with girls’ schools and then
think about co-education schools, “he stated.
He further said that the donation did not mean that boys were
being isolated.
