Hon. Jackie Winters (State Senator – Oregon ) and Dr. James Luce visit WAMA to Discuss Collaboration
Hon. Jackie Winters (State Senator – Oregon ) and Dr. James Luce, a pediatrician from Oregon , visited WAMA on August 5 to discuss future collaboration on issues related to education for orphans and vulnerable children.
In a courtesy call, following up on previous discussions at the Sullivan Summit in June 2008, the Senator said that she had come in Tanzania to seek ways to support education and water initiatives. “These are my passions, water and education,” said Senator Winters to Mama Kikwete.
Mama Kikwete warmly welcomed Senator Winters to Tanzania , and received briefing from her and her delegation on their current activities near Arusha. She expressed satisfaction and appreciation for what Senator Winters and Dr. Luce have done.

Mama Kikwete expressed her shared concerns about the need for universal access to clean water and education, especially for vulnerable children, especially girls. She invited Dr. Luce and Senator Winters to work collaboratively with WAMA on addressing these challenges.
Senator winter assured Mama Kikwete, in her role as WAMA Executive Chair, that upon returning to the United States , she would act as advocate and fundraiser for WAMA in these areas.
