WAMA the 2 nd in NGO Sector in Nane Nane Exhibition in Dodoma – August 8, 2009
Wanawake na Maendeleo Foundation (WAMA) has became the 2 nd among Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in Nane Nane exhibition in Dodoma . WAMA was given a winning cup and certificate during Nane Nane celebration that was honoured by Vice President- Mr. Ali Mohamed Shein in Dodoma on August 8, 2009.
WAMA supports the “ Kilimo Kwanza Mapinduzi ya Kijani slogan ” that eighty per cent (80%) of Tanzanians depend on agriculture for their livelihood and is through enhancement of agricultural productivity that will combat poverty.
WAMA vision is to become a recognized leader/contributor in increasing the number of economically empowered women, progressive communities and healthy, well educated children free from poverty, ignorance and disease.
Since women are among rural population who depend on agriculture as their main economic activity. WAMA aimed at giving women technical and financial assistance so as to improve their farming practices. The improvement of farming practices will help them to increase production (yield) and increase level of income and reduce poverty.
WAMA exhibition focused more on its Women Empowerment unit works where it represented the groups that were supported by WAMA namely:
Umoja wa Wakulima Hoyoyo- Kilimo cha Paprika na Ufugaji. (Agriculture)
Umoja wa Kinamama Kiwira, kazi za mikono (Handicraft)
AWOCONEO- Association of Women Education on HIV/AIDS (Nutrition).
Amkeni SACCOS (Saving and Credit)
Other WAMA units that participated in exhibition included Girl Child Education, Health Promotion and Advocacy and Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC).
